Alternator whine is a common problem with TTs. It probably occurs because of a bad ground in an electrical component (e.g., defroster, car stereo amplifier), which resonates through your signal wires for the stereo. I don't believe anyone has found a cure yet.
It's disappointing this problem hasn't been addressed by Audi.
Ideas, anyone?

Saw a fix for CD player noise (generic) in a VW tech bulletin (same Panasonic 6disc CD changer is used in the TT, Jetta, NB, Passat) and it recommended removing the ground wire at the CD player. Theory is to only use the ground lead in the cable that feeds from the head unit to the changer, and that the double ground was introducing the noise. I haven't tried it but it sounds sound.
